The son of a friend of mine tried to press charges against his dad for making him get up to do chores at 8 AM on weekends. It went before a judge. The judge told my friend's son not to complain about having to get up at 8 AM. The judge told my friend's son that (short of leaving marks), his dad could beat him within an inch of his life legally.

That's what I'm talking about. I'm not big on corporal punishment, but I believe it is necessary some times, as are other non-physical punishments like grounding and such.

That story about the 12 year old girl in Canada is just BS! I can't believe that the father can't even legally keep her from going on a field trip! Unbelievable! The judge should have to live with the guys daughter for a month and see what he/she thinks before casting judgement on her father.

All he wanted to do was keep her from getting raped. She was posing inappropriately on My space form the sounds of it. He was doing his job protecting her.

Sadly we now live in a world where parents are punished for trying to make good children.

I plan if I ever make the mistake of having a child to attempt to raise them to be good constructive members of society, and that doesn't mean getting their way whenever the **** they feel like it.

And if Children's Aid wants to take them away from me, let them be someone elses problem then.

wait.... WHAT!!!???? lmao, u got beat didnt you..
sig worthy quote?
hell yes my parents kicked my a$$ and that was only when they caught me. If I got what I deserved I'd have no a$$ at all. But lets review; I have a good full time job, 2 college degrees, own 4 pieces of property, have a stay at home wife (yes we live on one income), the home I have is half way paid off, all but one of our 4 cars are paid off, we have 60k in our retirement fund, etc etc. And I'm 35 years old.

So yes, please, dicipline your kids, beat them when necessary. It worked for thousands of years before we got "enlightened" and our kids got f-cked up.

How dare you be any better than the rest! You shouldn't have been beaten when you were younger, that hurts self esteem! If you had good self esteem you wouldn't need to have done so much hard work to get ahead! You could be mediocre like everyone else!

Scathing, sarcastic comments aside, it seems like the current model of parenthood that is being pushed on us is one of allow kids to do whatever and never call them out on what they do wrong, whether it be their benefit or not. And I sincerely believe that we are going to pay for this mindset when the current brood comes of age, if we are not already.
