Crapomatics should be illegal. Manuals are the ONLY way to go.
i detest automatics since i learned to drive stick... wheres the fun?!
Think someone could edit this to say automatics OR manual?
I have 04 auto. In our Moscow traffic it so much comfort to use auto.
Good to know there are more people that drive the REAL way here :D

I am in montreal traffic in the morning and i love the clutch. no need to press on the brakes all the time.

I "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick!"
02 GLS 5 speed manual. I've driven a couple of automatics, but not by choice. I agree, automatics should be outlawed...

Yeah, standard baby, yeah!

Why do you think so?
I prefer MT, but my wife strongly requested this car be an AT. My last car was MT and on those few occasions when her car was not available, she could not drive mine. She doesn't drive a stick, has bad knees, and absolutely no desire to learn. And since she rarely drives my car anyway, she would forget how to drive a stick even if I taught her.
My wife didn't want to learn, but it was because her dad insisted that all his daughters learn on his wrx, which wasn't the easiest stick to drive. It was his baby, and he let it get too personal when they would stall and what not. Anyway, I taught her and she is doing just fine now.

I think that my previous statement of outlawing automatics was a little strong, but I just think that with something as potentially dangerous as driving (or as my dad calls it, piloting a 2 tonne bomb) I don't think it is wise to make it so people have less to do. Also, with a standard, if you can learn how to drive it properly, there are more things that you can utilise in emergency situations, like the clutch to slow you down for example. I just think that if people were educated correctly on how to drive standard, driving might just be a little safer overall.

I do know that there are people who just can't drive standard, and I don't blame them for that or even think that they should not be allowed to drive, I just think that more people should be given the training, and that it should be more encouraged to drive a stick.

I gotta have a m/t,driving just isn't the same without them.

I don't have a problem with preferring a manual over an auto, but that statement is just total B.S. You may not think it's wise, but unless you can show some evidence that indicates manual transmission cars are safer than autos, you're just so much hot air.
Well, I am sorry that I did not present my case well enough. I just think that if we could get some people who think they can drive, and talk on phones at the same time, or other things like that in an automatic, to then go and do something else with the other hand and leg...we might have more people concentrating on the task at hand.

Anyway, like I said, sorry for not giving my opinion in a better way. Here's hoping that I don't fail my words again in the future.

(no sarcasm at all, honest!)
The real problem, then, is that you don't like it when people think they can do non-driving related activities when behind the wheel. With that, I can heartily agree!
LOL I talk on the phone sometimes while i shift gears :)

Anyways... Here's what I think: driving is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. You have to earn it. Some people like (don't get me wrong here) handicaps, or normal people just drive like idiots, or 89 year olds that parasite our streets with their bad vision and 15 kph driving speeds, well, they should be using common transportation.

A car is no joke. You are driving a man killing weapon. If you aren't able to drive stick, your reflexes aren't good enough. You don't have good eye/hand coordination. You shouldn't drive at all.

End of rant :D

automatic, because it was my only choice for the money i had, along with the horrible champagne color
m/t 05 gls didnt even think i was going to get it hte day i got it. i was going to go buy an accent. but got a killer deal. and i cant drive an atomactic when ever i try i always tend to slam on the brake cause i want to push in the non existant clutch.
is there any difference between an 01-03 manual and a 04-06 manual?

I thought only the auto trannys got changed from a mitsu in the earlier Elantra's to a Hyundai tranny

Buy a car with an AT and you'll cure yourself of that pretty quickly. When I was driving a 5-spd Ford Aspire and my wife and an AT Escort, I did the clutch-foot-on-the-brake panic stop several times!
