I just did this today at the shop, took me 45min. i had 84k on the fuel filter on my 01 and after replacing it and driving it out the car feels like its running so much smoother, like i gained some hp back. i got the filter from the dealership for 27.15 after tax and discount.

My dealer charged me 23.92 Why are the dealers all over the place when it comes to prices?

I'm changing my fuel filter today, and noticed that under the filter there is some sort of filtering bag that has some sediment inside of it. Do I need to change this out? and if so how do I remove it and what is it called so I can buy a new one (a part number would be even better). My dealer charged me $35 for the filter. Thanks BlackElantraGT for the guide.

Or it just magically fell into the garbage can :)

Just changed the filter this afternoon.... :)

The filter looked nasty!!! Taking pics tomorrow :)

The car responds unbelieveably now!! Its revs alot smoother, when I take off from the light, it used to launch off, then hesitates , and then takes off hard. Now it takes off, and keeps pulling hard thru the gears.. :) Awesome!!!

I found out that this is the Fuel Pump Filter, the Hyundai part number is 31090-2D050 it cost me $8.52 plus tax. Will be changing my old one in a week or so.

One more tip, after removing the seat bottom, take the gas cap off (outside the car of course). This relieves pressure in the tank. Doing this step took pressure off of the fuel pump and let me take it out of the tank slowly (instead of it popping up quickly). I changed mine out with almost a full tank and didn't spill hardly any fuel.

Also, everyone should do this. It was one of the easiest things I've done.

Crap I better get on this and get mine done next week. I just changed my spark plugs for the first time, my car is nearly 80,000km and 4 years old, only oil changes and brakes have been changed. Still have yet to do a coolant flush and tranny fluid change.....probably not a bad idea to do all of them lol

Thanks to this DIY, I replaced my filter in October. Be careful not to drop any dirt or othe particles into the gasline tank. I had "junk" come out of the filter and go back into the tank, but it was not much--still you want your tank to be as emaculate as possible.

Why does every parts store not have the fuel filter, and why is the dealer forcing you to buy the entire pump and not JUST REPLACE the filter only??
change dealer, they are trying to ripp you off, you CAN buy the filter appart from the fuel pump assembly!!!

OH! and Bob, you suck at Quotes! lolll
