OK, here is one for ya...

So a few weeks ago, I rolle dmy window down and wasn't able to get it back up. So I automatically assumed it had something to do with my car alarm (and window roll up modules). So last week I went for my troubleshooting appointment and after much troubleshooting, the install shop determined that the body ground (needed to run the switches/window motor) was no longer reaching the door.

I didn't buy it at first, until they ran a wire from my negative battey terminal to the inside frame of the door and the windows worked. They "temporarily" ran a ground wire from under the dash, through the grommet, and into the door for now.

My question is, after looking at webtech, I still can't see how the ground gets into the door. Any ideas?

here is how the driver's door gets ground:

the door ground wire originates at ground point G01:

the ground then runs along the interior below the door and runs up the A-pillar into door connector MD01:

pin 9 of MD01 is the ground wire, it is black:

the things that use this ground wire are the power windows and the outside mirrors. the door locks use a separate ground wire, running through MD02. i'm curious, did the mirrors work? also, where did you have the roll-up module installed? did you do it yourself? it's possible that that gorund wire got messed with. another thing to remember is that for the '01-03s, there was a TSB for corrosion of the door connector harness. this could cause a potential ground problem:

The alarm system was installed by a "certified dealer". I'll look at the info you gave me closer tonight. One other interesting tidbit. When the door was fully opened, the windows usually worked. When you shut the door to closed or 1 inch from closed, they did not.

okay, from the sound of it, my guess is that it's either a connection problem at the molex connector at the A-pillar or that they messed up the ground wire in teh door during the installation. let us know what the verdict is.

Southpaw,

I'll let you know if I find out for sure, but I'm glad you sent the TSB to me. The windows worked fine until about 3/4 through winter that is when the problems began. Thanks for all the input!
