I couldn't help it I took the easy way out and I bought the Evo Fusion exhaust off eBay. Obviously there isn't a 20 horse power increase but there is a definite increase in power. The kit is very nice but freakn loud I am not sure if I am going to able to get used to it. I might put the resonator pipe back on but I am not sure. The kit was easy to put on but then again I have access to a lift and air tools so it mad it a breeze. The only other negative thing I could think of is that the muffler touches the rear bumper, but I just cut a section off the rear and it looks pimp now. My wife took off with my digital camera so I didn't take any pictures yet., but once I figure out how to send pictures to myself from my camera phone I'll have some pics.

If you decide to get a header, it will be louder (obviously).
So, if the noise gets to you now, but you still want a header, do NOT get the OBX off ebay or it will be REALY loud. So, make sure you get a quality header.

Damn Auto, I'm all over you today.(see pcv filter post) LOL

WTF is wrong with the OBX header. Have there been some new Dyno's I haven't seen? Have there been some failures in the welds or otherwise? I'm not saying that the OBX is a "great" header, but it isn't a bad one. In fact, for the money it may even be "great".

I would agree that if you want a header, it will be louder and you WILL want a resonator, probably a glasspack instead of the oem resonator (just an open chamber).

All I can say about exhaust is you get what you pay for. I bought a cheap set of headers once for my camaro, and I regretted the hell out of it. The welds never failed, and they never rusted through, but the flanges warped in a hurry. I was always having to replace gaskets, which is a pain in the a$$.

sounds like you didn't have the SS headers for your camaro.

I'm not saying that you may not get another hp or 2 out of the hotshot's, but since our exhaust port design is so flawed, you are only getting 5-8hp anyway. It surely is a nice header but not worth the extra $250 (or more) over the OBX IMO. You are really paying for the name more that the quality. it is like getting an Injen or AEM intake over the Accord ones off Ebay. Are they Nice? Sure. Worth $150 more? No Way!!!

the ss or obx headers are made from thinner metal...the headers that hp sells are thicker and hence are not as loud....and since they are thicker they will last longer.

and i would definetly take a AEM over an injen anyday!! AEM actually dyno tests their intake and maximizes their intake....others just put a pipe and say they gained whatever amount of hp....

Only1, you are correct. I have always been a firm believer of that. When something is made from better material, it will last longer. But, you are paying for a name when you buy something. That is exactly how these places stay in business. They build a reputation, and have to make their products accordingly. If they made crap, nobody would buy them.

I never mentioned the quality issues on the OBX header, I was talking about noise.
Only1db hit the nail on the head though by answering you. The metal used in the OBX header is thinner and many people have complained obout them being very noisy and raspy sounding.

But, since you did bring up the quality, you do get what you pay for. I won't talk about hp since nobody has done dyno comparisons, but you are saying you wouldn't pay and extra $150 to get an extra 2hp? Well, I say that is the difference between winners and loosers at the track. But throwing the possible hp differnce asside, the overall quality is poor. The materials used are cheap and the over all constraction sucks. Are they worth the $150ish dollars paid after shipping? Sure, but if I was going to install a header on my car that I wanted to show or race, it is well worth the extra money to pay double. Also, even if I wan't going to show or race, it is well worth the money to have a quality product that will last.

To me, it just doesn't make much sense to buy a new(er) car only to cheap out on the mods. Most of us paid over $10gs for our cars and it is a shame that people will not think twice about spending hundreds of dollars on neons and other glowy rice but when it comes to buying quality engine parts that help make your car run better, they still buy the cheap stuff.

Thinner check books for maybe .10 sec? Me? 16.265 1/4 mile shifting at 6k. I think i can shave a 10th or 2 off that shifting at 5700 or 5800. after 23k all my "cheap" "crap" "unreliable" "slower" parts are doing just fine. Plus seems that evil had the fastest time at 15.8sumthin with the obx. Anyone beat that? So much for the taillights :D

Look, there is nothing wrong with buying the up-market stuff. It is good, if not "better" than the other. But in the end, you will have at best a 15.8sumthin na Elantra. Not a big dif it is 16 is it. I mean really? For the street it is all about 0-60 not 1/4 mile. So there you are talking less than a 10th. And if you are talking about drag racing at the track, speed isn't even the issue. Consistancy is. And if you are talking about autocross, again speed isn't as big an issue as handling so spend the money there first. I see a dog slow 88 escort consistantly run in the best times because it has great handling.

For most it is going to be sound, looks, and feel. Pure numbers are not why we bought this car and not why I modify mine. Mine sounds, looks, and feels good and almost a full second faster after $650 in engine mods. (yes I have a friend who does exhaust work) Wanna spend double that for the same result? More "power" to ya ;)

i'll buy quality first...not to mention obx is not a straight bolt up...you have to reweld the 02 bung and buch of other clearance and holes not being big enough....pay the extra and bolt that sh!t on....done deal!!! :nosthumbs the less time installing...means more time driving!

That IS worth the xtra money actually. I hate having a damn cell.

Yes it is not a direct bolt up but I had my entire exhaust replaced so it didn't need to bolt to anything but the block. I had no real fitment problem and it took me about 45 minutes to take everything off and put the header on. I challenge anyone to beat the time. And I didn't have to take the electric fans off either. Here is a DIY.
