Has anyone used one of these? They are supposed to be really nice for the price.

http://www.theflip.com/products_flip_mino.shtml

In fact, they sell them on Cafepress (and I already have an EXD one available if anyone is dorkafied enough to buy one). In April I might be going to Florida to watch some cricket and thought it might be good to be able to take good HD video for Youtube. I think I might have to get myself one.

But first, anyone have any experience with it?

If your seriously considering one, look at the Creative VadoHD instead. If you don't need to record 720P, the non-HD Vado is under $100. I've used both and the Vado's are much nicer quality. My buddy at GPSCity.com likes the Vado so much, they're going to start selling them. I'm buying the first one he gets in stock.

The VadoHD is the same price as the MinoHD and has twice the memory (8GB).

These "pocket cams" are nice, and great for consumers, but they won't be able to compare still to "regular" digital camcorders.

But it is nice since they are pretty much direct to youtube...

My cousin has one and the thing is amazing. It takes crazy good video in bright light but dark is just that kinda dark. He loves the thing and takes it boarding and even made a mount for his Quad.

Thanks Aaron, I'll take a look. Nice that it has an HDMI output.

I'll definitely be getting an HD version of whatever I get. Might as well, since it doesn't cost too much more.

... and the VadoHD has 8GB.

Neither one is expandable (no card slot).

Apparently the Kodak Zi6 is pretty good. It doesn't have any onboard memory to speak of, but it can use up to a 32GB SD card. I think that might be the one I get.

What does a 32GB SD card run these days? Off to Tigerdirect I go...

Re: Flip Mino HD digital video camera

Now I'm thinking just getting a traditional digital HD video camera. Of course, then there is a lot more selection. I'd like to spend under $300. As long as it takes HD video then it really doesn't matter. I'm not sure making sure to get one that shoots at 60FPS is that important as compared to 30FPS. I would like it to be fairly small though.

Looking at the Sony Webbie HD also now.

The only thing I don't like about the Sony is that you have to use stupid Sony memory instead of regular SD cards (at least I think you have to use the Sony memory).

Then I saw this Sony handycam as well. It's less of a "Youtube" camera and more of a real camera, but a bit more expensive.

I need help guys.

So I bought one just now.

Kodak Zi8 which is their newest pocket camera.

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuer...Key=black02&ekreferrer=aff_cj&pq-locale=en_US

Had a 15% off coupon and a free shipping coupon so with tax it came out to $160.

Gizmodo review and they have a clip there as well. Looks like it'll do what I want it to do pretty well (record stupid videos). I decided I couldn't wait until next year when I update my iPhone (and I'm sure the video quality won't be quite as good, even if they update the current 3GS camera).

Now I have to find a good SD card. 32GB ones are around $100 it seems, so I might go with a 16GB for now. We'll see. Does anyone suggest any brands over the others?

I found a couple of 32gb SD cards at newegg for under $75 with free shipping. Not sure what your price point is.

Newegg is pretty much the only place I shop for computer stuff these days. Those memory cards Robert put up are perfect for you James.

Ever since you started this thread James, I've had my heart set on the Flip MinoHD. I wish I had had the fundage to get one prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise this past weekend, but did not. I plan on purchasing one next month though. That Kodak one looks pretty good too
