I did new front brakes and wheel bearings on my XD yesterday, somehow the passenger side half axle popped out and all this fluid drained out (was brown like motor oil). What type of fluid was it, transmission fluid or gear oil (or are they the same). Where do I fill this fluid at? I couldn't locate the dang transmission fluid dip stick anywhere to check. Lastly, I need to take my car to the alignment shop this morning, can it be driven with that much fluid loss? Thanks.

The type of ATF Elantra's use does look brownish after a few miles.

Was it liquidy like fluid or thicker like grease?

Transmission dipstick is on the driver side of the engine (RED handle). It's kinda lower in the engine bay. Where other fluid places are about fender level. The top of the transmission dipstick is about the height of the where the bottom of the battery is.
