Hello,

I have a 2000 Elantra and would like to clean my HLAs...have any of you disassembled one of these and/or can they even be disassembled?

Any advice as to how to test to make sure one is not locked up or faulty?

Thanks and looking forward to any comments...

Robert.

Are they making noise? Why do you think there's a problem with them?

Thanks for the Reply,

There is a very loud clacking noise coming from the head area...it sounds like it is in cadence with engine rpm. I had posted about a week ago about the clacking noise and pulled the cams and lifters - I cleaned a few of them that had some perceptable roughness when turning the plungers in the HLAs and after putting everything together, the sound was still there. I was planning to clean them all this time.

I wanted to clean them a bit more thoroughly and have read that the plungers could be removed to clean/test them and was curious as to the procedure...

I have worked on other types of engines and the sound is very familiar to a failed lifter...however, this is the first time I have worked on a OHC engine.
