I am interested in installing a leather shift boot on my Auto GT (I got the idea from the GT club:

http://www.elantragtclub.com/index/id233.html

Does anyone know where I can get a shift boot that will fit. I would really like to do this mod. I hate the way the stock gear selector looks (I think I had the same one on my 76 Corolla!)

Thanks in advance!!!!!

The one from the manual will probably fit. You should be able to get one for really cheap at your local junkyard. Or you can buy it from the dealership.

I had an automatic MX6 as my first car...

My G/F just stiched up 4 pieces of pleather from Joannes fabric and we made a boot for the auto. Its not really hard, just measure it and cut four triangles then sew them together.. It looked really sweet, because I cut down the shifter and if I used to boot from the stock manual shifter it would have been MUCH larger than the span of the shift selector.

So my advice is simply make it... PM me if you need further instruction

i did the same thing as what sed is talking about for my manual. i assume the size should be roughly the same for the auto. the DIY for making a shifter boot with all the sizes is also on elantraGTclub's site http://www.elantragtclub.com/index/id270.html
the only thing that you might need is the plastic ring and a metal ring that hold the top of the boot together. you can kidna see the piece i'm talking about in the pic. it's right under the shift knob
