New, just invested in a 2010 elantra touring and want to add some racks

Hi,
I've done some research on racks and the ideal solution for me would be to install tracks on the roof of my touring. (This is because I have a set of track mountable yamika racks)

Not only would this be much cheaper for me, but it would give me the flexibility to put the racks farther apart and more easily carry long surfboards, kayaks, etc.

Does anyone know where I could find a wiring diagram for the elantra ceiling and domes lights? I don't want to cut through and important wires when I install the tracks.

Has anyone tried this yet? Is there anything I may want to consider before for putting some holes in my roof? haha? I suppose there must be.

Anyhow, any advice would be very appreciated.

scrosby, welcome to EXD!

For a wiring diagram of that visit hmaservice.com and register. Then navigate your way through by picking your year and model and you should find what you are looking for. Let us know if you need any more help.

Sounds like a bit of project.

If you are bolting the racks to the roof, you will probably need to pull down the headliner and everything else up there to put support pieces on the underside. So wiring should not be a concern at that point.

Here is an installation that has nothing to do whatsoever with Hyundai - but may give you a glimpse of the process. This is the roof rack install for a 2005+ Nissan Frontier.

I have a 2010 Elantra Touring GLS M/T, which does not come with the roof side rails. Do you know if it is possible to add the factory side rails to the GLS M/T? Any idea of cost if installed by the dealer, or the cost of the parts if it is practical to install oneself?
