hey everyone. My 2000 GLS is having a hard time. It spits and sputters when I take off from a complete stop or switch gears around a corner. Engine light came on, took it to the dealer who told me it was the plug wires. Had them replaced. Car worse than it was before. I had an A4 Audi and it did this same thing. Dealer replaced wires and after long hours of research found that it was the ignition module. Replaced the part and the car ran fine. Sold it shortly afterwards. Now my elantra seems to be doing the same thing but I cant find anything in the manual that is remotally close to the Audi part. My only other intuition is the throttle position sensor, acceleration sensor, or MAP. If anyone has any suggestions or experiance related advice Id really appreciate it. I really dont want to be screwed into paying for something else that I dont need. Oh the car is at 72K which could also be part of the problem.not the spark plugs either and the manual says to check the vaccum seals and such next. Taking it to my mechanic today. Hope they find something.
It was also suggested to me that it may be the ECU or the coil pack.
It is now one week later and I am still looking for the answer and $200 dollars behind. The mechanic in my town predicted it was a head gasket either defect or leak and was going to charge me $1500 to fix it. I called the dealer who quoted me $300. The closest dealer is an hour and a half away. Had it towed there to have them tell me I needed to change my spark plugs and wires AGAIN, that I needed a timing belt, and that the exhaust manifold was cracked. The mis fire is happening in cylinder three. Anyone have a parts car up for sale?
