Our 2005 Elantra (automatic) started having a really rough/loud idle ONLY when it's sitting in "drive." (e.g. at a stop light); enough to feel it. If it's in neutral or park, it's nice and quiet. When driving it's quiet too. Idle RPM stays ~ 800 in any gear.

I've read some here about things to look into for a rough idle - spark plugs, A/C, vacuum, etc. and elsewhere about the odd "rough idle only in drive" - mounts, tranny, etc.

So any ideas for this specific problem on an Elantra? Especially if it would be covered under the 100K mile warranty? (we're at 98K now!) I plan to take it to a shop soon, but I'd like me and my wallet to be informed... Thanks!

In my experience weak motor mounts can definitely cause the car to shake when in gear. Especially if the motor doesn't really shake when in park. If nothing else it is pretty easy to visually check for bad mounts.
