Background on my car:
Purchased it used at 129k miles a month ago
2003 Elantra GLS

When starting it up the rpm meter will bounce between 800 rpms to 1k, each second. It does this for about 8-10 seconds where it's just bouncing between them then finally it idles around 500 rpm.

It's an automatic and it's usually in park, though I have experienced it after starting up and driving to a stoplight, I've found that it does it as well.

Should I let my car warm up? I usually start it up and wait 20-30 seconds before driving.

Is it a weather thing? It's anywhere from 10-30 degrees here in Michigan.

Is your idle erratic too, or is it just your meter spazing out?

i dont really know what that means but its not just the meter spazing out, so I'll go with the 1st option because i can actually feel the engine going up and down(if that makes sense). It's like I'm accelerating and taking my foot off and repeating it quickly for a good 5-10 seconds each start up.

I had this problem with my Stealth, btw. It was a bad idle air control.

They're real cheap and easy to install.
