SRS Wiring Recall

I think this has already been discussed (but my search skills must be lagging today), but I have an additional question.

Here is a run down of the problem (sorry for the text, it's copied from my Progressive Insurance site).

Recall Number: 08V533000
Dates Manufactured: JUN 2000 to DEC 2001
Number of Vehicles Affected: 150541
Date Owners Notified On: JAN 0001
HYUNDAI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MY 2001-2002 ELANTRA VEHICLES. MOVEMENT OF THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS MOUNTED UNDER EACH FRONT SEAT, POSSIBLY CAUSED BY CONTACT FROM MATERIALS PLACED UNDER THE SEAT, MAY RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE THAT WOULD CAUSE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION.
Consequence of Defect:
THIS CONDITION ONLY RELATES TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT MOUNTED SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS AND MAY PREVENT SEAT MOUNTED SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT DURING A CRASH WHERE SUCH DEPLOYMENT SHOULD OCCUR. NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE SRS AIR BAGS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER UNDER CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.
Corrective Action:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CLIPS AND REVISED SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS ATTACHMENTS UNDER THE DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER'S SEATS. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING THE FOURTH QUARTER OF 2008, AND WILL BE SENT OUT IN SIX MAILINGS. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
So, since I have different seats in the car (GT seats) do you think the dealer will still do the work?

Nobody has any thoughts on this?

There's only really one way to find out...take it up there and ask.
progressive is actually how i found out about the airbag recall for my car too. i'll cross my fingers for you!
I'll have to look into this. I've been having this problem (mainly on the p/s)

You know I'm too lazy to do that...

I think I'll probably just mention it to them next time I'm in for service and see what they say.

its probably like the newer sonatas with the passenger occupancy light....

we had to test them if the light when out then it works fine (or else we had to remove the seat and sent it out to cali to be reprogrammed then reinstall)

all techs have been dealing with this all the time...you can clean the pins and reconnect and it will stay out.

i cant remember if the seat harhness is a seperate harhness or not...if its not that will suck!!
I just got a letter for the recall today, gonna check tomorrow if mine was built between the dates specified for the 2001 model.
I'll probably just do the fix myself if it needs it.
that is unlawful...the dealership needs to perform all/any recalls. not to mention they are not just going to hand over a srs harhness
Mines an 02, but that would explain why my air bag light is always on.
it could be anything...but more then likely thats the issue
Dates Manufactured: JUN 2000 to DEC 2001
That's going to be a relatively small number of people here. My '02 was built in March of '02, so I'm in the clear.
That's what I was thinking Mike, but why would they send me something in the mail if mine wasn't from that time frame?

Where can you check to see when the car was manf?
I believe it's on the drivers side door on the bottom edge if that makes any sense. It's raining right now so I'm not going to check.

I know mine doesn't fit those years, but I've always had this problem I've just never cared. I think I'll hook it up to the scan tool tomorrow and check out the SRS code to see what it says.
if you have the hyundai one you can...unless you have a snap on one or something.
I have the Genisys (I think?) one at work that I can use.
