Ok so I live in a place where it snows 6 to 7 months out of the year. My Elantra is going to be my daily driver for probably over 10 years I would hope. Now I was thinking about getting some coilovers to help lower it and make it a bit stiffer. Is this really a good idea for driving through snow? I mean I'm getting snow tires and all that but I still feel like it's a bit risky.

What if I was to keep my stock struts and keep the same ride height but I add braces to stiffen the body.

So my idea was to get strut bars for the front, back(I know I don't need it lol) and a center bar as well. Also are there any good under body braces you know of to help make my car stiff?

I can only do so much without having coilovers. To add to my list, a sway bar and any other components that don't involve replacing the oem struts.

Let me know if you have any ideas and if you agree or disagree. If you have some links of good braces, sway bars, and a center bar let me know.

with lowering are you going for form or function?

Well the stock suspension on the Elantra is kinda soft. I wanted it to be a bit stiffer maybe. I'm not sure how low I could lower it to be safe when driving through snow. If I have to go to work at 6am my roads are not usually plowed.

To answer you question though, I wanted coilovers for more low than stiff, but I also wanted a little bit more stiffness in case I want to throw it into a turn every once and awhile.

Not sure if lowering springs would be a good idea or not. I found some for $315 that come with springs and shocks for a set of 4. Would lower it 1.4 inches all the way around.

Let me know if anything else I could do or your opinions.

i would say go with Eibach springs and i think its tibby struts then get some 17inch rim and tire combo. the springs will give a mild drop but keep you good for winter if i'm right tibby struts are a bit stiffer the Elantra struts and tire rim combo will fill the gap.i just don't see coilovers making it to long with that much winter and those who live in that area tend to put cars on coils away for winter.

so in snow you put them at stock height they are adjustable.

not sure I am eventually going to get them for my sonata

What about alinements? And also with salt would that make the coilovers hard to adjust cause of rust?

Just got to keep it clean besides the nuts and barrels are aluminum, also and aligment should be done every 6 months anyway.

18mm or 19mm will blow the stock one out of the water.
i went from the GT i think is 15mm to the 19mm and wow huge change.
