Hey all. I currently drive an 04 Black Elantra GLS. The only thing ive put in sofar to the car sofar is a stereo, and that needs to change! :D

Im currently looking to spend 1000-1500ish to spend to spruce up performance a bit, and am mostly looking at performance mods before I do anything visual.

The only definates are:
rear sway bar
Powerchip for 93 octane
CAI and or Short Ram Intake
maybe buy some wheels secondhand or if i can get something better than my stock steelies for a decent amount of money
Exhaust

Now... I know ill end up spending more money than that.. but I need a place to start, if anyone could chime in and give me a few pointers on where I should start, id much appreciate it.

The bad part at the moment, is that I have an automatic. Certain circumstances prompted me to buy a new car pretty quickly (my old ride got backed into, drunk, by one of my neighbor's relatives and they were pretty well off so they made a pretty solid offer on the damage and I decided id trade the car in as-is) So I ended up getting all the money I paid for the old car and then some between the check from the people who hit me and the trade-in on the lot.

Speaking of the lot... The dealer was a whole nother fiasco alltogether. Burns Hyundai in NJ is terrible :\ They mirepresented my information with the financial people and filled out alot of loan apps completely out of whack in an attempt to get hte car out of there that day (I am 23, and have just a coupla credit cards, no major loans or anything so my credit was kinda lacking at the time) After channel 10 got involved.... I got the car with the loan in my name at an admittedly still-high interest rate, but the purchase price was so significantly discounted that I couldnt have gotten a better deal if i tried really :).

Hello, and Welcome to the Site. It looks like you've done your research quite well, good job!. With $1000-1,500 to spend, let's see how far we can go....

CAI- $35 (eBay Accord Intake)
$100+ (Name Brand Intake like AEM, Injen, etc)

Powerchip ECU Upgrade- $350+/-

Tib 19.2mm Rear Swaybar- $150+/- (Including all bushing/endcaps)

Header- $75-200 (eBay)
$250+ (Name Brand like Shark Racing)

2.25 inch Exhaust- $200-400 (Including all parts and labor)

That will put right where you want to be....about $935....more $$$ if you go with the name brand stuff.

But let's quickly talk about the FREE MODS you can do....

TB-Coolant Bypass
Remove Weather Stripping from Hood
Remove Clutch Slave Cylinder Valve Spring/plate

I would list shortening your shifter, but you have an automatic, so that doesn't apply to you.

Anyway, I hope this kinda helps you out. Good Luck and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

What is involved with putting on a new header? I havent exactly done uh well, any modding yet :) and will undoubtably have to pay for at least some work done on the difficult mods.

A Header is pretty much a bolt-on. I think you have to take the waterpump off to make room. Then just unbolt the stock manifold, and replace it with your Header. Everything should bolt right in place. Then put the waterpump back in place and you're all set :)

PS: Oh, and you may get a CEL(Check Engine Light) with a Header. Check the Forum for the Thread that talks about the "Header CEL".

After finding out from my insurance company that id be paying over a hundred LESS a year, I went down to my local hyundai dealer.. and after 2 days and about 10 hours spent at the dealership.. (it was worth it ;p) I picked up a brand new 2004 Tiburon GT V6 In Tidal wave blue for about 16,500!
I am absolutely *in love* with the car, its beautiful! and boy does it purr :)

/happydance.

I honestly had no idea I could manage a tib, especially at about 70 more a month than i was paying for an elantra.

About the lantra... well for one my credit wasnt too well established (first auto loan in my name) and the interest was thru the roof. They got me a pretty solid price to compensate for the hideous interest on my lantra, and this time around the way my rates have dropped, the price difference is turning out to be pretty minor.

When I got the lantra I figured itd be tight just paying for that and my other bills, but it turned out i had a ton of money to spend on retarted things every month, and really im only goin for like 70$ more a mo than the 'lantra.

Man.. I love my tib! :)

Wow. Congrats on having a new car, I guess... I think that's the fastest turn-around we've had from new owner to former owner? Anyway, you'll love the car if you can afford it (which you said you could). Go Hyundai!
