Is this supposed to shock us? Sales and Payroll are usually the two deciding factors in any business. When Payroll is WAAAAAYYY up, and sales are WAAAAAYYYYY down, what else could realistically happen?

the only reason i would care about GM, other than they are a HUGE part of the american economy, way of life, and history, is that my girlfriends uncle (fortunately) still is an assembly line worker somewhere in the midwest. well, last i heard he still worked there, and has for the past 30 years or so.

my girlfriends parents, and aunts/uncles that i've met so far, all have bought GM cars because of this. between my girlfriend and her parents alone they own a GMC Sonoma and Envoy, Pontiac (right?) Cutlass Supreme 95th anniv. edition, a Jeep wrangler and soon about to add a ford focus in there for her brother.

no, i dont like most of GM's car designs and such, but they are well manufactured veicles, and it would be a damn shame to see ANY domestic auto maker bite the bullet and go out of business.

recently i've seen quite a few new cars on the road, more than normal for the past few months, but not a single one is a US company. mainly Toyota, Mitsu, and BMW is what i've seen.

Ford's unionized and they seem to be doing well enough to turn down Gov't. help.

The problems have more to do with the fact that the companies are based in America... not that they're unionized.

This is no big shock to be honest, throwing money at a problem (bail out packages) never was going to save a company from decades of poor spending structure.

dont even get me started on this. my view point... F U C K them all. fak all thos money gobbling highly paid executives that make more in a week than i make in a month. fak all those execs for making the auto industry FAIL and go down hill.

yes, i have a piss poor attitude twords all the high paid execs that keep getting those fakin fat checks while im still trying to scrape by and cant even get a raise even thos my performance and work deserve it.

At the heart of it, unions have one essential objective; ensure the survival of the union. Once a union is created it must grow its ranks or at least maintain them in order to ensure relevancy and survival.

As the ranks of the CAW continue to dwindle, they're redoubling their efforts to attract new members into the fold. Yesterday they turned to Honda Canada Manufacturing.

Members of the Canadian Auto Workers union stood outside of the front gates at Honda Canada's Alliston, ON manufacturing facility during the afternoon shift change to hand-out pamphlets on how all auto workers, unionized or not, are facing dire straits.

I'm not sure if the "we'll protect your jobs and increase your pay" sales pitch is going to work considering the unions have achieved neither for their GM, Ford and Chrysler workers over the last few years.

Perhaps the CAW could learn a thing or two from Honda's workers? I'm just sayin'...

I still dislike Unions.
