tiburon GT calipers + 2004 sonata w/ ABS rotrs + stock 15" ALLOYS (ie: gt wheels) = DOES FIT

i took my snow tires out of storage today and over to my dads and decided to try to put them on just to find out...they DO fit. maybe the tib rotors redrilled is what was causing them to not fit, but the combo i just mentioned is what im running and the wheels turned with no problems or rubbing. there was maybe 2mm between the caliper and the wheel, about as much as i had w/ my OZs

and just to add, these are on my car now, and im rollin on nicks stock steelies, and have no issues with it.

tried to get some while i was there, but it turns out my dad gave the old camera to my mom (lives somewhere else) and the camera his ex-gf got for him for his b-day a few weeks ago wanted it back and he already gave it to her

i was in the same boat as everyone thinking they wouldnt fit, but knowing myself, i had to check it on my own. i was happy to see they fit

as for pics, ill be happy to post some in a couple months when it starts snowing and i put them on again

update. we slapped on one of james' GT wheels at the meet, everyone saw they fit, got pics + video that they fit...ill try to get them off my camera tonight

Actually I always said they fit. I did a test fit a long time ago. The steel wheels are the ones that did not fit.

I thought I remembered the results of your fit test being the other way around, with the steelies fitting, and the alloys not fitting?

I forgot about all the poly suspension parts for the 03 Tib. That is also a consideration. Just sucks that i am sure they will be a major PITA to install. The poly engine mount inserts I am trying to get done in the next month or so. My 03 Tib front rotors and calipers should be on by the end of next month now that I know they fit under my stock 15" steel wheels.

I posted real quick on my way out the door at work. I was thinking about this and I realized that the steel wheels are the ones that fit and the GT alloys did not.

Here is what I think is going on. When I did a test fit the brake pads were brand new (full thickness) and had also not been put under pressure by the piston yet. Because of these things the GT alloys did NOT fit over the Tib calipers.

I think that when Evan938 tried the GT alloys he had some wear on the pads and they had been compressed to some extent by actual usage. Thus allowing 2mm clearance.

So worst case scenario is that a brand new set of pads on Tib calipers may not fit until they are worn down slightly. You may be able to sand a millimeter off each pad as well but I don't recommend this.

its the bracket that fits tight, not the caliper...the bracket doesnt move...its just mounted and the pads slide thru it

Well that makes it hard to explain then. I know the GT alloys I tried hit the caliper. You have also tried and they don't. You have any other ideas as to what caused the difference? I really don't think Hyundai changed the offset of the stock GT alloys but that is the only thing I can think of that would affect this. Your sure the bracket was the closest item? If the pads were thicker would the caliper itself be a problem? I don't have or work at Hyundai anymore to answer these questions myself.

I was thinking that as well, but you said the bracket was the problem so the rotor would not have any affect on this.

in theory, that would help...it would mean the wheel is pushed that much further out, clearing more
