Ive got a 2001 Elantra VE, same as a GLS .

I kinda want to keep my car streetable..not a crazy power ful car, but able to pull away from races if I want to.

What do I really need for a mild turbo setup and what psi should I run? I know there are books out there for this, but might as well go to the Elantra experts.

And I've read about our returnless set up systems, I would prefer to keep it, so I dont mess around when it comes to replacing parts..

I've read the kit briefly, is that a good kit? Looks like everything is all there..just need to install. I've got an automatic tho..he mentioned some problems if I boost too high...which is not really what I need..but could be slipping problems?

If i stay with the original cats..would they plug up ?

And CEL....anyone with turbo...what did you do with your O2 sensors?

why exactly will his transmission die a "lot quicker than it should" because he has catalytic converters on his car???

First and formost you have no choice about the first cat, its taken out with the turbo manifold.

If you want to keep the second cat, go ahead, it'll hurt your hp ratings, but in NO WAY will it make your transmission "work harder".

If that was the case, every stock turbo car out there would have blown trannies....

which is incorrect anyways but I'm guessing thats what he meant to say :)

You will be WELL advised to have the torque converter looked at and beefed up by a good transmission specialist or contact Level10

I would hope so, OD is a smart guy, but that just didn't make any sense to me.

Get a tranny cooler for your auto, use royal purple tranny fluid. Bullet proof the geartrain.

High stall torque convertor so you can launch at 2500 rpm.

I think OD just put all his thoughts together, the first half is about relocating the second O2 sensor behind a high-flow cat. The last sentence is his opinion that the power generated from high boost would shorten the life of a stock Elantra auto tranny. I think he's very right too.

yeah, thats what I meant. Sorry for confusion. I just got all of my thoughts together and answered all of his queations.

If he keeps his tranny the way it is and will be putting 230whp he will loose his tranny really quickly, but he can do some upgrades and it will last a little longer :)

but honestly, there were so many problems with auto trannies on regural NA cars, and I had metal dust when I was changing oil in my tranny from just driving hard, never did N drop. Now imagine having twice as much power on that freaking tranny? it will die fast!!!

yes, tranny cooler will help a little, new converter will help too, and maybe new oil will help, but it will start slipping soon and then it will die, lol!

I dont know if I like the fact that the turbo kit uses chrome plating on stuff...I guess it helps keep costs down though. if you wanted to get crazy, you could snad blast it and have a ceramic coating put on there. and I think it would be very foolish to try to run a turbo with the stock cat in place. there will probably be a good bit of doubt about buying their NA package as well. your best bet is to take it to a reputable company.

EDIT: I think chrome will work great for the inercooler pipes (hopefully its a good quality chrome coating). but my main concern would be on the manifold and downpipe
