I need to replace my '03 gls rear brake shoes very soon. The problem I have is to replace the drums also because it exceeded 8" ID service limit. The drum has studs embedded and I can't find such replacement drums. I searched online and all I could find was ones without studs. Where can I buy Elantra drums?
Believe it or not, I have never changed the rear brake shoes since I purchased my car in 2003. The mileage is now over 314, 000 miles.
I dont understand this. Did you remove the hub nut? If so that is your problem. Leave the hub nut on and back off the shoes and pull the drum off. Here is a picture of an 04 with a separate hub. Either you have some odd car or you are not understanding how the drum is bolted to the knuckle. Take a picture for us to see and we can let you know.
i cant see the photo since im at work but they are separate according to the hyundai parts breakdown. the photo above is not correct or is missing the breakdown information.
the wheel bearing/hub slides onto the knuckle and is secured by the large hub nut. the drum should be able to be removed from that. Im not sure why yours is different. It may be frozen to the drum itself and you need to buy a new hub/bearing assembly. also the wheel bearing/hub are one assembly together.
