Traded in the Elantra for a 2009 Sonata GLS. Ebony Black, loaded, 4 miles on the clock.

I was aiming for the Limited, but they wanted at least $5,000 down, and I couldn't pull that. It's probably for the better, anyway. My monthly payment on the Limited would have been $120 more than what I'm paying for the GLS.

Got it for $22,800. $3,125 down. ($2,000 rebate for buying an '09; $500 rebate for trading in a Hyundai; $750 cash)

The "hesitation" should go away the more you drive it. From what I understand, the trans control part of the computer will learn your driving habits, and adjust shift points and what not accordingly, if you beat it, it'll shift higher, if you drive it like you're 90, it'll shift lower for fuel economy, right now, it's probably just learning how you drive it and it's confused :D. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how it was explained to me when I started selling these things awhile back, it makes sense though.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

Took my first road trip in it this weekend. I went to my dad's house on the north side of Milwaukee. 565.7 miles, 10:16 total driving time. (There and back).

I filled up in Noblesville, drove to my dad's and had exactly half a tank when I got there. I filled up again on the way back in Merrilville, IN, with a little under a 1/4 left. (426.2 miles).

So what was your mpg calculation?

She's nice on the highway right? Gots ta beat the 'lantra in terms of comfort. I love my car on the highway, she cruises at 80+ all day with no problems, just not so comfy after the first hour or two.

Oh yeah. You can't hear any engine drone, the seats are actually comfy. It's like driving a cloud.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

It holds 17.7 gal. A little under 1/4 would be about 4 gal. left. We'll call it 13.5 gallons used... 426 miles... about 31.5 mpg.

So, he's getting low 30's on the highway.

dayyyyyaaaaam! that looks so good Cory. Just needs a set of rims and you are set.

Side note I was at Blue knob auto yesterday and they have an 06 v6 GLS with 50k on it for 10 grand. the XD might be traded if this chick doesn't buy it soon.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

I had the chance to pay cash for a 2006 V6 Sonata but I didn't want to spend all of my money. I ended up buying this Elantra after I test drove it. I said it once and I'll say it again. Until I test drove that Elantra I never thought that I'd ever buy one. The V6 Sonata was super nice though and was quick. My parents have a 2005 4 cyl Camry that has plenty of power and is very quiet. No doubt your Sonata is the same.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

Good news for you HD owners...my Sonata used H11b bulbs up until yesterday, now I have an H11 5000K HID kit. :)

Modifications from H11b to H11 were extremely simple, as long as you don't mind modifying a small part of your headlight assembly.

Here is the inside of my Sonata's headlights before the conversion. This uses the H11b bulb, which has two prongs sticking out of the side to slide into that connector. If the HD headlight assemblies look like this, then you can do the same thing I did.

Image

I took out those three screws holding in the H11b base:

I then slid the bulb connector off of the base:

I broke off those tabs, which will essentially turn that base into a normal H11 base, allowing any normal H11 bulb to screw into it.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

Looks nice! Do you have a nice cut off line? How is glare? Thinking that the lights are in projector lamps, they should look almost factory-ish. I was thinking about doing this to the Xg... but never did.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

Modding the snotnota already. We all knew this was coming. Now that I'm not familiar with the h11 style anything, why do those tabs interfere with the bulb?

Because, the H11b is shaped weird. The prongs that make contact stick out to the side, and slide right into that connector. Taking that connector off makes more room, but the H11 bulb still cant screw into the base without removing the tabs that hold the connector as well.

Okay, here's the first issue I have with this car, and I can't figure it out:

About 4 weeks before I put my HIDs in, my right signal stopped blinking. It still works, it just stays on, no flashing. My left one works fine, and both work fine with the hazards on. But by itself, right won't work. (Note the fact this happened before the HID kit was put in, it's already eben tested and proven the HID's are not the cause of this issue. Thankfully!)

I've taken it to the dealer on two separate occasions, and it's still having this issue. First time they told me the bulb was blown...second time they told me the contacts for the bulb weren't set right. Both visits were free of charge, but that's 4 total hours I'm not getting back.

Now, here's the weird part...after the two visits, the turn signal works some of the time. Usually only when it's warmer out, or my car is warmed up. When it's cold out, or my car isn't warmed up, it will stay on like before.

Any ideas?

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

I'd change out all the bulbs on the right side (both front and rear). There may be a bulb that is not blown, but is semi-screwed-up so that it is not drawing enough current, and the car thinks you have a blown bulb. The no-blink is there to tell you there is a burned out bulb.

Re: 2009 Sonata GLS

Sounds reasonable to me. I'm changing out my DRL's to a white led, might as well change them then.
The Sonata has Day time running lights? :luvlove:
